August 2024
Jamie Chen
As a junior at the John Jay School for Law, Jamie Chen has been an active and dedicated volunteer, participating in a range of programs like Summer Beyond, park clean-ups, and the Parent-Child Research Collaborative (PCRC) program. Her commitment to community service is evident in her varied contributions, where she has shown reliability and initiative. Whether it’s cleaning up parks or helping with research, Jamie consistently demonstrates her passion for making a difference.
Jamie is not only admired by her peers for her trustworthiness and leadership, but she also stands out for her dedication. In August, she contributed the most volunteer hours, driven by her goal of using her time wisely during the summer. Her favorite experience was completing the PCRC program, where she had the unique opportunity to participate in her first research project and conduct her own studies. This experience allowed her to gain new skills and make a meaningful impact on the community.
Looking ahead, Jamie aspires to be a well-rounded student and perform well on her SAT. Her advice to fellow volunteers reflects her proactive nature: “Grasp all the opportunities thrown at you. If there are no opportunities, create them.” Congratulations to Jamie Chen on receiving the August Volunteer of the Month award for her hard work, dedication, and inspiring contributions!
July 2024
Yuming Mei, our dedicated volunteer, has been actively involved in the Leif Ericson morning park cleanup and street cleanup efforts since the beginning of July, contributing an impressive 70 hours of service. Initially motivated to fulfill his graduation requirement and improve his communication skills, Yuming soon discovered the more profound rewards of volunteering. He has shown exceptional leadership by taking charge of the street cleanup team, significantly improving the community's cleanliness and safety. Yuming's favorite aspect of volunteering is working with a team that shares the common goal of making the community a better place. He finds great satisfaction in contributing to the community's well-being and safety.
Through his volunteer work, Yuming has learned that volunteering is much more complex than it looks and gained a newfound respect for the hardworking volunteers. He significantly improved his communication skills and discovered the joy of working towards a common goal as part of a team. One of his proudest moments was receiving Jason’s approval to lead the street cleanup team, even though he still has room to grow as a leader. Yuming was surprised and honored to receive the Volunteer of the Month award, as he initially focused on completing his school requirements. He said, "Don't be afraid of the hard work you have to do because whatever you do, regardless of whether it's good or bad, you did your best." Congratulations, Yuming, on being our Volunteer of the Month! Your dedication and hard work are truly appreciated.
